For anyone who faces the daily battle of language barriers, instant gratification of translation in a foreign country is now here! All thanks to the new Google Translate app update released week.
Although translation was possible before the update, it was not instant and often quite clunky. Two of the new exciting features released in the update this week include:
- The instant translation of photos of text using the World Lens feature. And what’s even better is that you don’t even need a Wifi or data condition to do it, making it ideal for avoiding costly data charges when abroad!
- Real time conversation translation. In listening mode, the app will naturally detect the two languages being spoken and once you have spoke a sentence, the app will display a written translation while also speaking the words in the other language. Who would have though that one day your phone could also act as a seamless translator!?
As cited on the BBC, Google said the update took people “one step closer to turning [their smartphone] into a universal translator and to a world where language is no longer a barrier”.
With no limit to what technology can now achieve, here at Damteq, we can’t wait to see what’s next!
