WordPress Web Developer

Job Description

Let’s start with some of the basics. We’re Damteq® and over the last 12 years, we’ve grown from a tiny one-man band start-up, into a well respected, highly successful Specialist Web Design and Marketing Agency. We’ve got our head office in Fareham, Hampshire (this is where all the magic happens), and a smaller satellite office, for meetings in the big city of London.

Every single year we’ve doubled in size, and we’re looking for more awesome talent to join us. One thing you won’t find here is the usual boring job description of the endless ‘need to haves’. For us it’s not about whether you got an A* in Science and Maths at school, or about what you’re having for dinner tonight (although if it’s Nando’s, we’re jealous), but more about the skills you can bring to Damteq, to help us and our clients grow.

We’re that fun, creative and ambitious company that you’ve been longing to find. We’re also human, and crazy to think, but we don’t run Damteq like it’s North Korea.

We value everything that you’ve achieved in the past, but equally, our best talent has always come from tailoring careers. We mould you into our way of thinking and working. The likelihood is that 50% of the stuff they told you at your last agency can be left at the door.

Ultimately we’re all as unique as you, and we’re sure that you’ve got some really hidden skills that you’ve never been given the opportunity to show. Our job is to work with you, to find and use those skills, so you can come to work and love what you do, every single day.

We want work, never to feel like work.

So, this ‘role’… we need a front-end web developer/designer to work with our current web team. They are bloody good at what they do, so you need to bring your A game. We use WordPress, so you need to be pretty Dam’ Good at that. We build everything bespoke, so you will need to know things like PHP and the norm. We also use the latest comms and version control software so ideally, you’ll know how to use these too. We might be asking a lot, but ideally, the person who’ll sit in the seat will also have shit-hot design skills, as well as development, so in an ideal world, you can code like a geek, and make things look pretty too.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Front end designer and back end development experience ideally.
  • Minimum 2 years experience of PHP programming, MySQL, SASS, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Experience working with Agile and Scrum techniques
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of building WordPress CMS websites using the best practice & de-facto standard plugins.
  • Experience using GIT, MAMP and Gulp
  • Experience of API’s ideal
  • Experience of software like Asana and Slack
  • UX focused developer
  • Creation of plugins/widgets written to conform with the WordPress coding standards
  • Creation of clean, logical, well-documented and re-usable code
  • Theme/Template integration
  • Good understanding of cross-platform and cross-browser issues
  • Use of jQuery / AJAX / HTML / CSS / Javascript an advantage

Ideally, the successful candidate will also have:

  • Have used other CMS/eCommerce based web platform i.e WordPress, Woocommerce.
  • Have great communication skills
  • Software Dev Experience

Ideally you’d be used to an Agency environment so you can have previous experience, but equally, if you’re fresh out of college or uni, but have that genuine flair and expertise then get in touch. We won’t laugh if you don’t know everything.

Some advice for you… a couple of things that do get our juices flowing. If you can pat your head and rub your tummy, that’s one step towards being able to multitask. That’s really important as we manage a huge diary, where you’ll be expected to multitask and time manage your own projects. Also, if you have designed and developed some awesome things in the past, show us. We want to be wowed.

We can tell you’re getting excited, so let’s tell you what you’ll be getting out of this deal. If you come to the office and do awesome stuff, you’ll get a competitive salary popped in your bank each month, a really good pension plan (that’s for when you’re old) and company perks – like regular team nights out (the top dog pays). We also give you your birthday off each year and a really generous holiday allowance.

Don’t get us wrong here, we work with some huge clients and we’re actually really professional. That said, we’re a fun, fast-paced, not too corporate team that is growing Damteq® into that great place to be.
