In an effort to increase the transparency of Facebook and as a reaction to the misuse of the platform, Facebook has added a new ‘Info and Ads’ tab to all Facebook pages.

Having previously been trialled in Canada and Ireland the new Info and Ads tab has finally been rolled out to every page allowing users to see any active ads running on a Page across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, even if they’re not being served to them specifically.

Why has Facebook added this section?

As you may be aware, Facebook has been under quite a large amount of scrutiny surrounding the collection and misuse of personally identifiable information of up to 87 million Facebook users on their advertising platforms.

As a result of all of this, Facebook is making a push to increase transparency and force advertisers on the platform to be more mindful of the advertising they put out.

“We believe really deeply in transparency because we believe it leads to changes in behavior,” COO Sheryl Sandberg said during a press event at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California. “It will hold us accountable. It will hold advertisers accountable.”

What if I can’t see any adverts on a page?

If you don’t see any ads, the page may not currently have any ads running or may not have any ads running in your country. However, if the Page is running ads in other countries, you can click select country and choose from the list of countries to see the ads that are currently running in that country.

Does the page show all of the ads from a company?

if a page or company is running adverts you will most likely see them on this section of the page however some more dynamic adverts and offer ads will not show here due to the way they display on the page.

As a business owner, what are your thoughts on this new change? How will it affect how you run adverts on Facebook or Instagram?
